Faced with a global shift of these proportions, men have few options. As their IMS increases, they can either wage war on the people they blame for their plight, or they can embrace a massive change in their whole concept of what it means to be a man and of their role and purpose in the broader social context.

It’s time that 21st Century men get over their cultural biases and start adopting an attitude that’s less arrogant, self-reliant and shame-based, and adopt a healthier attitude that’s more personally vulnerable and more open to others’ experiences and viewpoints.

I think that you and I can learn some serious lessons about how not to manage a midlife transition by observing carefully the scenario playing itself out on the world’s stage.

I’m going to get philosophical here, and I think this point is vitally important: even though we can now identify a biochemical basis for the midlife transition, we must be extremely careful not to fall into a reductionist mode of thinking. We’ll do ourselves real damage if we think we can go off and find a ‘cure’ for male menopause, like hormone replacement therapy.
