Dreams go bad when we attempt to unpack and move in. They are motivators, inspirations and sources of great joy. They can also become our prisons and blocks to our achieving a sense of satisfaction and contentment when we permit ourselves to get stuck in them.

You may still think that, when circumstances change drastically (like they do at midlife), reinventing yourself would seem to be a very wise thing to do. I say ‘seem to be’ because that’s all based on your set of assumptions. You assume that it’s possible to ‘reinvent’ yourself, and you further assume that you know how to do it.

The holidays can be particularly challenging for men and women at midlife. There are attitudes that you can adopt that transform your holiday season into something very special.

The dirty little secret that we all pretend that nobody knows about comes down to this: transitioning through middle age brings with it all kinds of convenient excuses for not doing whatever it is that we’d rather not do.
